Heloise Tunstall-Behrens is a composer, producer and performer of both electronic and acoustic music as well as a vocalist. Her sound covers contemporary classical, pop, experimental and timbral drone.

She writes for ensembles and soloists. Recent performances include pieces for ensemble and solo piano for Riot Ensemble at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (HCMF) in 2020 and 2022. She is a member of vocal ensembles Howl and Yolk and writes for their repertoire. Electronic composition include multi-speaker piece, 'Petroglyph', which was premiered at HCMF 2019 on Huddersfield Immersive Sound System. In 2023 she collaborated with writer Robert Macfarlane and scientist Prof Ilan Kelman on a UCL Commission as part of ‘Performing Planet Activism’ to create ‘The Work of Many Hands’, which aims to inspire hope for the future. It was performed at UCL’s Grant Museum in February 2023 by Fleet Primary School choir and an instrumental and vocal ensemble. She is currently working on a commission from Newlyn Gallery and Exchange responding to the rising sea levels, which will be exhibited in November 2023.

Her work often bridges the intersection between movement and sound. In 2016, she received Arts Council England funding to write ‘The Swarm’ with Auclair, a choral work about swarming honey bees exploring the dynamics of a collective decision making process. This was performed in Brunel Museum in 2016 and VAULT Festival in 2017, choreographed by Roswitha Gerlitz; and was released on Amorphous Sounds in September 2020. She has worked alongside Choreographer Hannah Wallace on ‘Groundworks’ in 2021 and Movement Artist Fernanda Munoz-Newsome on ‘GO GO GO, BEYOND’, a 2022 commission from The Roberts Institute of Arts as well as ‘Whirlpooling’, a 2022 commission from TBA21-Academy as part of ‘Oceans without Borders’ symposium in Cordoba, Spain.

She currently sings and composes with Deep Throat Choir (Bella Union) and Blood Moon Project (Amorphous Sounds), which was just awarded funding by PRS Foundation’s Women Make Music to produce a record. In 2022 she collaborated with Johnny Flynn, Luisa Gerstein and Robert Macfarlane on the music for a radio adaptation of ‘The Dark is Rising’ by Susan Cooper, which is being aired on BBC World Service from December 2022. The music was released as an EP: ‘Six Signs’ on Transgressive Records.

Past projects include Landshapes (Bella Union), Vertical Foliage (CAMP Editions) and Lunch.
